Died of Illness in Captivity on Sunday 20th June 1943

Born on 3rd January 1915 [Newmarket 3b:799] to Louisa STAGG of 4 Stovers Cottages, Icewell Hill, Newmarket.

In the 1939 register his mother (25-7-1882], still single, a cleaner at the Workhouse, was alone at 4 Stovers Cottage, Icewell Hill, Newmarket

George appears to be the nephew of Frank STAGG , who died near Ypres in 1917


George was captured on 15th February 1942 at the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese and died of dysentery at Kilo 206, Thailand. He was buried at Takanoon and then re-interred in Kanchanaburi on 7th February 1946.
